Special power supply manufacturers analyze the method of power module heat dissipation

Everyone knows that when using the power supply, the power supply will generate heat. Most of the places where the power supply is used are continuously working in a closed environment. The accumulated heat cannot be dissipated. The internal components of the power supply may be damaged due to overheating and affect normal use. Avoid this. When this happens, it is necessary to design heat dissipation. NextSpecial power supplyThe manufacturer tells you the following methods for heat dissipation of power modules.

1. Convection heat dissipation

Convection heat dissipation is a commonly used method of heat dissipation in Aipu power converters. Convection is generally divided into natural convection and forced convection. The heat transfer from the surface of the heat-generating object to the surrounding air at a lower temperature is called natural convection; the heat transfer from the surface of the heat-generating object to the moving air is called forced convection.

The advantages of natural convection are simple implementation, no need for electric fans, low cost, and high heat dissipation reliability. However, compared with forced convection, in order to achieve the same substrate temperature, a larger heat sink is required.

2. Larger package size and heat dissipation area

This is well understood. The larger the package size and heat dissipation area, the better the heat dissipation effect. When choosing a power module with the same power, a larger package size and heat dissipation area should be selected.

3. Radiation heat dissipation

When two interfaces with different temperatures face each other, successive radiation transfers of heat will occur. The end effect of radiation on the temperature of a single object is determined by many factors: the temperature difference of each part, the position of the relevant part, the surface finish of the part and the distance between each other. Because it is difficult to quantify these elements, plus the influence of the surrounding environment's own radiant energy exchange, the calculation of the influence of radiation on temperature is very messy and difficult to be accurate.

4. Matching design

Keep the input wiring of the power supply as straight as possible to avoid forming a loop antenna to attract external radiation interference. At the same time, the input line and output line need to maintain a proper distance in accordance with the safety requirements of UL60950 to avoid voltage failure. Furthermore, wiring under the power bottom board is prohibited, especially the signal wires and the electromagnetic wires of the power transformer will interfere with the signal.
