Technical Selection of DCDC Module Power Supply

The DC/DC module power supply is widely used in communication, network, industrial control, railway, military and other fields because of its small size, outstanding performance, and convenient use. Many system designers have realized that the correct and reasonable selection of DC/DC module power supplies can save the trouble of power supply design and debugging, and focus on their professional fields, which can not only improve the reliability and design level of the overall system , And more importantly, it shortens the entire product development cycle and wins valuable business opportunities for winning in the fierce market competition.

The external dimensions and output forms of DC/DC converters vary greatly. Low-power products use a sealed shell, which is very small in appearance; high-power products often use quarter-brick or half-brick forms, with circuits or exposed or wrapped in shells. When choosing, you need to pay attention to the following two aspects:

1. Whether the pins are on the same plane;

2. Whether it is easy to weld.

SMT converters must meet the requirements of the IEC191-6:1990 standard, which strictly limits the coplanarity of SMT device pins. The non-coplanarity of the device pins will cause difficulty in positioning the device during assembly, which will seriously affect the welding quality and increase the defective rate.

The SMT type converter should be able to withstand the specified welding conditions. For most modern assembly lines, the device must meet the reflow requirements specified in the CEC00802 standard, that is, the surface temperature of the device can exceed 300°C. If the converter cannot meet this requirement, a special welding assembly process needs to be designed for it, which will increase assembly time and increase production costs.

Package form:

There are various packaging forms of module power supplies. There are also international standards and non-standard ones. For the same company's products, the same power product has different packages, and the same package has different power. Then how to choose the package form? There are three main aspects:

① The volume should be as small as possible under certain power conditions, so as to give more space and functions to other parts of the system;

② Try to choose products that conform to international standard packaging, because of better compatibility, it is not limited to one or two suppliers;

③ It should be expandable to facilitate system expansion and upgrade. Choose a package. Due to the increased power requirements of the system due to function upgrades, the power module package remains unchanged, and the system circuit board design does not need to be changed, which greatly simplifies product upgrades and saves time. All comply with international standards, are half-brick and full-brick packages widely used in the industry, and are fully compatible with brands such as VICOR, LAMBDA, and the power range of half-brick products covers 50-200W, and full-brick products cover 100-300W.
